The original longer version of the poem below is said to have been found hidden at the back of the bedside drawer of its anonymous author after her death. What Do You See, Do You See Me? speaks volumes about why Living Legacies. Too often the routine of each day can obscure the personalities of the people who live among us.

Have you ever wished you knew more about those you are serving?

Has it been frustrating not to know the fullness of who they were before?

Would you like to offer your staff a means of having a short profile created with pictures and text so that they could better relate to those in their care? (It is surprising how much information can be in even a two page article such as the sample provided here.)

My hope is that senior care professionals will come to embrace and advocate for the idea of families commissioning a Living Legacy even prior to entrance to a new living environment. That way the person can be “known” in advance and welcomed in a way that quickly diffuses their very real fears and bolsters them with encouragement.
